The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy Movie!
It's about time, isn't it? Or is it? Different fans would argue one way or the other.

(copied from my journal on 18 Dec 2004:) The actors, I think, are relatively unknown in the US, which I think is a good thing for a pretty popular book/series/radio show/game for which fans have their own expectations about a movie version. The original Arthur (Simon Jones) from the BBC radio version and TV mini series version appears in a cameo (instead of Arthur). Also, Zooey Deschanel from elf plays Trilian. Check out the IMDb page on the movie, and of course, the downloadable teaser trailer, in various formats (QT, Real, WMV). Notice the easter egg (?) near the end of the trailer.

The first non-teaser trailer is now available on Amazon, on the front page as of today (16 Feb 2005), or directly linked. The new release date is 29 Apr 2005.

Ben and Claire and I watched the movie on 30 Apr 2005! I wrote a brief history of my encounter with the Hitchhiker's universe and a quickie review of the movie (no spoilers! (at least for fans of the radio show and book)) in my journal the following day.

I've learned some things since watching the movie (mostly on the parallels and differences among the different incarnations of HHGG), but most important of all that the folks at the BBC continued the original HHGG radio series with the Tertiary, Quandary, and Quintessential Phases based on the third, fourth, and fifth books, respectively, and featuring most of the original BBC radio series cast (from the Primary and Secondary Phases). I chronicled my discovery in the journal on 16 Aug 2005.
